Not long ago, I tried booking a GP appointment for a perfectly reasonable issue… the sort of thing that left untreated, might result in mild inconvenience or full-blown funeral arrangements. It started, as all great British tragedies do, with a chirpy automated voice informing me: “You are number 37 in the queue.”
